Senior Previsualitsation Artist
Black Rock Studio is currently looking for a Senior Previsualisation Artist to join their Brighton-based studio. The studio, best known for award-winning titles such as the MotoGP series on Xbox 360 & PC and the multi-million selling ATV Offroad 3 & 4, is currently developing 'PURE' on Xbox 360 & PS3, as well as an additional original IP racing game.
The previsualisation team is responsible for producing animations and images based on the ideas of the game and marketig teams. Any new or existing features of the games are prototyped by previs until they work from a visual and gameplay point of view.
The nature of the work varies greatly in a short space of time as previs projects are generally quick turnaround. This means taht working in previs is never boring - one day you could be producing a highly polished render for marketing, the next you might be animating an in-game car chase. As video games are becoming increasingly cinematic, so is video game previsualisation. Previs does it's best to incorporate film and television styles of camera work and post production effects into its sequences.
Key activities:
- Animating vehicles and characters to a high standard for conceptual sequences; taking direction from the Lead Previs Artist.
- Ability to create fast turnaround digital previsualisation work based on technical briefs dictated by project requirements.
- Provide creative and innovative solutions to technical problems / restrictions.
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of all current platforms, and have a good awareness of 3D application developments.
- Produce artwork for use in marketing and PR.
- Consistently strive to maintain or exceed the highest quality standards of the studio.
- A minimum 2 years experience as an artist in the film and / or videogame industries, or the ability to demonstrate outstanding visualisation / graphic abilities.
- Expert understanding of either 3D Studio Max or Maya (experience of other 3rd party modeling packages would be an advantage but not essential.)
- Good working knowledge of Photoshop.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of creativity and understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, shaders, animation and particle FX.
- Traditional conceptual art skills would be an advantage, but not essential.
- Ability to critically evaluate your own and peers work constructively.
- Demonstrate high production values.
- Keen eye for detail and effective visual representation and compositional skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Must be a passionate, enthusiastic, self-driven and talented individual.
